Hand built mid fire glazed and underglaze sculpture

This body of work explores the space between the ancient and the contemporary, between earth and sea, memory and material. Inspired by my Greek and Egyptian heritage, these works do not seek to recreate the past, but to uncover its quiet presence within the present.

The Guardians emerge through an intuitive process of hand-building, revealing themselves slowly rather than being consciously designed. Inspired by the enduring mythology and sculptural traditions of my Greek and Egyptian heritage, these slab-built, hand-moulded figures exist somewhere between the earthly and the divine—quiet, protective presences that feel both ancient and timeless. Layers of underglaze and Mid-fire glaze enrich their weathered surfaces, inviting a sense of memory, mystery and enduring strength.

Waves began with a small discarded scrap of clay on my bench top. Drawn to the quiet beauty of its form, I recreated it by hand—first larger, then larger again—allowing a fleeting gesture to evolve into a series of sculptural vessels. Hand-built using slab construction, each piece is finished with a vibrant underglaze interior and a mid-fire glaze exterior that creates the illusion of weathered bronze. The vibrant blue interior is a quiet nod to the Mediterranean and the landscapes that continue to inspire my connection to my Greek and Egyptian heritage.

Vestige, inspired by time spent in Greece, I found myself captivated by the dialogue between the ancient and the contemporary—the way centuries of history sit comfortably alongside modern life. Weathered surfaces, fractured textures and layers of colour revealed through time became a lasting source of inspiration.

Hand-built using a combination of coiling and slab construction, these sculptural vessels explore those impressions through clay. By applying liquid silicon to partially dry the surface, I encourage organic cracking that echoes naturally weathered architecture. Layers of slip glaze and underglaze bring together old and new, creating surfaces that feel both excavated and contemporary.
