My practice begins with clay and a willingness to listen.

I am drawn to forms that sit somewhere between the body, the vessel and the landscape — forms that bend, stretch, open, resist and reach. I work intuitively, allowing the material to influence the direction of each piece rather than imposing a fixed outcome. The process is physical and instinctive: building, pulling, pushing, tearing, joining and responding to what the clay gives back.

My current body of work explores growth not as something smooth or effortless, but as something shaped by weight, resistance and change. The forms carry a sense of striving — of holding themselves upright, pushing outward or reaching beyond what they were. Their irregularities, ruptures and raw edges are not imperfections to be concealed, but evidence of the process of becoming.

There is a tension between fragility and strength within the work. Clay is vulnerable, yet these forms often appear heavy, grounded and resilient. Some feel rooted; others seem to stretch or emerge upwards. I am interested in this contradiction — the idea that strength can come from pressure, that growth can be uncomfortable, and that transformation often leaves a trace of what came before.

Surface is equally important. Glazes, texture, colour and firing introduce an element of unpredictability, allowing the work to move beyond what I initially imagined. I embrace accidents and reactions as part of the conversation between myself and the material.

Ultimately, this work is about becoming — physically, creatively and emotionally. It is an exploration of what it means to grow, to carry weight, to resist, to reach and to find strength in the process of transformation.

I am not trying to make perfect forms. I am interested in forms that feel alive.
