Waratahs are one of my favourite natives to paint — bold, dramatic, and full of life. In this still life, I’ve arranged a striking bunch of waratahs in a blue-and-white striped bowl, letting their sculptural forms take centre stage. The piece blends earthy browns and warm orange tones with my own layered bursts of colour, creating a balance between groundedness and energy. I love how waratahs hold both strength and delicacy, and painting them always feels like a celebration of resilience and beauty in the Australian landscape. This work is part of my ongoing exploration of native still life, where colour, texture, and expression meet.
