Hand built ceramics

My ceramic works, mostly stoneware functional vessels are inspired by Japanese aesthetic, drawing on the rhythms of the ocean, rocky shorelines and organic forms found in nature. My hand formed organic forms invite a deeper contemplation of nature's rhythms while the abstracted style allows for an emotional connection to the oceans mysterious and transformative power.  Drawing on the kurinuki technique, meaning to hollow out, vessels are often carved out from the inside, using various scraping tools. My work celebrates imperfection and the beauty of understatement. Paired back forms, subtle glazes and intentional simplicity invite stillness. Each piece is a meditation in clay - holding space for both function and contemplation. My clay vessels echo the rock pools with all their texture and colours.
