Linda Gibbs - Darby River Gold Plains
Linda Gibbs - Darby River Gold Plains
Oil on Linen 92cm x 122cm
As a landscape painter, my practice always begins in the field - a challenging endeavour that brings knowledge and integrity to my work. Immersed in the elements, my palette struggles to keep pace with wild weather, subtle colour shifts, incredible atmospheres and overwhelming beauty. Solitary painting under vast skies can be divinely intimidating; a frantic activity producing many vigorous studies. Back in the studio the studies inform large scale, pared back oil paintings, where detail is removed to reveal only a whispered remnant of my landscape experience.
We are delighted to present a series of Wilsons Promontory paintings by Linda Gibbs. Her highly acclaimed work investigates the dramatic atmospheres of Gippsland and was fittingly included in the recent Turner and Australia exhibition. Described as painting “with the eyes of a realist and the soul of a poet.... Gibbs leads us into a kind of wakeful slumber” (Simon Gregg)
